Located in a distinctive building near the Inner Harbor, the museum's collection includes thought-provoking pieces that challenge traditional artistic norms and celebrate the human spirit. AVAM's exhibits and programs encourage visitors to think creatively and explore the boundaries of art. Each live session has limited seats to encourage interactive discussion and personalize the session for the group. Poe would have been aware of the Old Stone House’s significance since the house was already appearing in guidebooks as a Richmond landmark. An 1843 book already refers to the century-old house as “the old Stone House” and calls it the oldest house in Richmond. There is no evidence that Poe ever entered the home.

Virtual Tours are led online via the Zoom conferencing platform. Poe House is open for timed, small-group tours; each person in your party is required to have a ticket. In the 1930s, homes in the area, including Poe's, were set for demolition to make room for the "Poe Homes" public housing project.

“Connecticut’s Bookshelf” is on display through Oct. 13 at the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History, 1 Elizabeth St., Hartford. The Shrine itself was built of bricks and building materials from the office of the Southern Literary Messenger where Poe was employed and which was located just a few blocks from the museum.
